Angus Steer Exhibitors

For 12 consecutive years, Briarwood Angus Farms has challenged FFA and 40H youth to exhibit their Angus steers at the Missouri State Fair by offering significant incentives. Dr. Curtis and Ann Long consistently Junior Angus members to trust the carcass merit of their breed and put it to the test. Cash awards and custom embroidered director's chairs went to six youth from across the state who brought their Angus Steer projects to Sedalia. Dr. Long extends and additional $50 bonus to any champion that qualifies for CAB.
In the FFA Class, Gregory Connell, age 15, from Kidder, received Grand Champion Angus Steer and $300. He is the son of Victor and Jessica Connell.
A steer shown by Brooke Longstreth of Moundville, landed the FFA Reserve Championship. Brooke is the 19 year old daughter of Kent and Jeani Longstreth. She amassed $800 in prize money with a $200 award for the title, $500 for winning the Champion Carcass and $100 to cover her entry and acknowledge the CAB eligibility with her steer's Prime carcass.
Kellie Alexander, 18, Linneus, earned the 4-H Grand Champion Angus Steer award, walking away with $00 in winning. For her Championship she received $300 and added entry and CAB monies for her steer's Choice carcass. Her parents are Myron and Carol Alexander.
Bryana Binkley, 12 of Jefferson City, took home the 4-H Reserve Championship with her Angus steer and a $200 check.
Briarwood Angus Farms, since 1964, has focused on the end product, with "Your Carcass Connection" still their motto. Their steadfast commitment to the Angus Beef industry is evident through added awards to Missouri State Fair Angus Carcass winners. Grand Champion Longstreth was joined by Tanner Drechsel, who won Reserve. Drechsel follows in his brother and sister's footsteps with the honor and earned $400 for his efforts. He won the Reserve Champion Angus Carcass contest as an FFA contender from Booneville.
In addition to Longstreth, Drechsel and Alexander, other outstanding Angus CAB carcass winners include: Reba Colin - Prime carcass Angus Steer and Elizabeth Otto - Choice Carcass Angus Steer.
The Angus Carcass winners will receive their prize money during an awards presentation at the Annual Missouri Angus Futurity Banquet.
