Text Box:        Briarwood Farms encompasses 1535 acres, with 150 acres designated to crop land and 1500 acres devoted to permanent pasture. We run a 220 registered cow herd in the heart of the Midwest where the cattle are conditioned to endure a variety of seasonal elements. Our base genetics came from Wye Plantation before AI was ever popular. Since 1964, we've worked to produce functional, good milking cattle that calve easily and work well for the commercial man. Our long-standing commitment to the Angus breed has rendered seven generations of quality cattle and superior genetics born and raised right here at Briarwood.        As a charter member of US Premium Beef, we understand the necessity for value added products. Our cattle consistently grade over 90% Choice with more than 50% qualifying for CAB, while still maintaining yield grades 3 or better. We finish out approximately 100 head annually on the farm and we use that information in our breeding decisions. We aggressively manage a custom health and nutrition program to develop our bulls and females while providing adequate range on large fescue pastures.      It takes a team to build the best. We are pleased to have David Warfield as our manager and Ann Long serves as our farm bookkeeper. Our customers are also key to our success. Visitors are always welcome!          by Manager David Warfield            I tried to come up with a "David Letterman's" top ten reason to buy a bull from Briarwood Farms but fortunately for you I could only come up with FIVE. Reason #5 - Everyone who buys a bull gets their name put in a hat. One name will be drawn out and that person will receive at no additional cost a fall yearling open heifer. Reason #4 - PRICE - You could spend all spring and wear out a set of good tires on a vehicle and not find a better bull for the money. The majority of the bulls will be priced between $1600 and $2000. Reason #3 - REPUTATION - Doc and Ann. Briarwood Farms has been around for a few years and I feel they will continue to be around. They stand 100% behind what they sell. At the same time we haven't had to make too many adjustments because if the animal is not right it will not get sold. Reason #2 - QUALITY - I feel the overall quality and depth of our sale offering has improved every year with this year being no exception. We have several ½, ¾, and full brothers if you are looking for more than one bull that is bred alike. Five of the fall and Five of the spring yearling bulls qualify for Show-Me-Select heifer bulls. There are bulls with 700 pound weaning weights, 1300 pound yearling weights, and 15 to 19 square inches of loin eye and outstanding Marbling. You might ask how we can get bulls of this quality? SIMPLE - Constant Culling. By ultrasounding our bulls and heifers and by feeding out our own steers and heifers we are able to get performance and carcass data back on a lot of animals. For example - every year one half to two thirds of the bulls are steered. In October of last year we sent 32 yearling steers to Royal Beef Feedlot in Kansas. They shipped 15 contemporaries to the fall bulls that are in the sale on January 22. Fourteen went Choice, one Select, five Yield Grade 2, ten Yield Grade 3, (no Fours), and SEVEN went CAB. They were between fourteen and sixteen months old with a live weight just over 1300 pounds and a carcass weight around 825 pounds with no implants. That's real world data and those are the bulls that we thought were not good enough to sell to you as  bulls. Reason #1 to buy a Briarwood Bull - You could go home with a good heifer at no additional cost to you and as Doc says "Everyone likes something for nothing."
